We used Kyle Loftus’ storyboard of joke number 5. The process of turning the visual storyboard
into a video was generally fairly simple with the benefit of minor changes. We chose a storyboard that was clear in the
direction they wanted the story to follow.
The most difficult part of this assignment was the constriction of
creative freedom. There were times when
we wanted to add or take away movements or change dialogue to make things more
natural, but we had to constantly remind ourselves that we had to strictly follow
the storyboard. Specific issues that we
had to compromise from the storyboard were timing issues. In the storyboard, Kyle stated actions
lasting a specific time amount such as “after about 15 seconds of standing
there in disbelief he puts down his business card and walks away,” or “after
writing for about 2 minutes she notices everything is back to normal” and
because of the time restraints on the video we were not capable of following
these directions specifically. Another
complication when filming was that the storyboard stated that the event was to
take place in Baker, but obviously for noise and availability purposes it was
not ideal to film there so setting and scenery were not perfectly fitting. We feel that overall the storyboard was
reasonably well written and laid out, and we believe our adaption was quite
respectable.
